CDNetworks, which has made successful inroads into foreign markets, announced that it would become a case taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. It will be the third Korean company to be selected as a case study at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Professor Robert Burgelman made the decision. After receiving the news about CDNetworks¡¯ success in the US market, he decided that the CDNetworks case would be suitable for a case study to show the technology and business strategy that had accelerated digital media revolutions in Korea. Professor Burgelman is an acknowledged authority in the filed of business strategy and a twenty-year-friend of Intel¡¯s CEO Andy Grove. He is also famous for the research on Intel¡¯s success strategies.
According to the introduction of case study, "CDNetworks, which has a 65% market share in the Korean CDN market, is making overseas expansion to the US, Japan, and China."
The contents of case study includes the history of CDNetworks, the CEO Samuyul Ko¡¯s philosophy of management, KOSDAQ registration in 2005 and the existing state of the company¡¯s assets until 2007, CDNetworks¡¯ world-wide competition conditions, prospects for CDN and mass media industry. Professor Burgelman will handle the CDNetworks case in his classes. Executives of CDNetworks will participate in his classes, too. It is expected to let hundred thousand executives know about CDNetworks as the case is taught in the program for executives at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Professor Burgelman¡¯s new textbook about business strategy will include the CDNetworks case. It will belong to the School for good.
Because a major number of MBA graduates from the Stanford get jobs in the field of business and technology in Silicon Valley, it is expected that companies in Silicon Valley will increase the understanding of CDNetworks and leading communication conditions of Korea.
The CEO Samuyul Ko said, "the decision of the Stanford Graduate School of Business to do the case study for CDNetworks is significant in the respect that this is the third case as a Korean company after Hyundai Motors and Samsung Electronics. The reason that Professor Burgelman chose not famous big business but CDNetworks is due to IT technologies and progressive global business strategies that CDNetworks holds. Our technologies and strategies are by no means inferior to large corporations. It will positively affect to enhance Korea¡¯s position in the world."
