South Korea, as it launches the world's first commercialized RFID service, appears to be little closer to earning an international standardization through International Telecomm Standardization Union, ITU-T.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced about its recently held 'ITU-T next Generation network standardization conference' which concluded on March 9th.
The meeting led by the ETRI IT Technology Transfer Evaluation Center was prepared for the organization: ITU-T Study Group 13: Q2 and Q9 which are responsible for International standardization of NGN: Next Generation Network.
The SG13 group Q2 currently is reviewing the aspects of frameworks and functional architectures of the mobile RFID service as part of reviewing process of international standardization and Korea, anticipates obtaining initial approval within this year.
ETRI's HyoungJun Kim who is in charge of Rapporteur of Q9/SG13: led the NGN IPv6 applications part and its standardization process of the meeting.
ETRI has been actively participating in the international standardization process since 2005. Currently, besides the SG 13's Group Q9, has two active rapporteurs and International Standardization editors who write the documents.
Besides Korea, among the attendees for the conference included expert panels from France, Canada, Japan and China and together worked on the international standardization process.
Dr. Hyeong-Ho Lee, director of ETRI Standards R&D and Vice-Chairman of ITU-T SG 11 who was in charge of the meeting noted, "We can solidify our position of earning the international standardization of next generation network by such meeting in Korea with both Q2 and Q9 of ITU-T SG13 who plays the major influence. Moreover, we will put our best effort to secure global standard of IPR in core technology sector."
