On the 5th past, Infosec, an information security outsourcer and Piolink, a L4-7 Switch and web security solution provider together came out with a giga level web firewall equipment 'WEBFRONT'

Inforsec who concentrated purely on consultation rather than solution sales and Piolink whose mainline were in L4, L7 switch are drawing quite an attention and making the buzz over their web firewall release. .

Especially Pionlink with this collaboration has shifted from its application field to application security field and made a first step into the security market.

Both companies explained that large scale portals even with their continually growing traffic conditions thus far had to rely on insufficient hardware and that had lot to do with formation of early web firewall market.

The WEBFRONT can safely handle maximum up to 4 Gbps traffic and over 50,000 TPS. In addition it offers dedicated application security switch platform (ASSP) and unique application proxing technology and WISE (Web Insight Security Enforcement) for secure web service.

Inforsec and Piolink plan to release a 10 Gig web firewall system around first half of next year as a follow-up model to the 'WEBFRONT'.

Inforsec’s CEO J. Park said, "the web service has become basic infrastructure but on the other hand, web security market has not." And "I think there weren’t any solutions to help form a market" he stressed.

Web Firewall: more to be desired, actual user feedback not reflected
Thus, security protection market with firewall, IDS, IPS products centered on giant corporations, the security industry converges onto web firewall market as they consider it as the ‘blue ocean’.

However, contrary to all these companies releasing security products with big hopes in the firewall market, actual computer professions show lack of confidence in them.

They do agree that protecting the web environment is first priority but they have doubts to how effectively the firewalls can protect various attacks.

Network manager from Sookmyung women’s University said, "The actual users always dream about having a perfect security against attacks. But there are many complaints over its ability to fend off attacks when they installed the firewall." And added "rather than compromising over high performance alone, I wish for product that was developed using actual user concerns and feedbacks to address those areas the users are most concerned with."

A computer tech from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) also said, “There are numerous release of web firewall security suites but from user’s stand point, it is too early to consider for purchasing, the price is high and uncertainty over how effectively it can protect against the attacks all make the purchasing one more difficult.”

Thus, the security protection manufactures should not only focus on their performances but have an open mind to and open ears to develop solutions that can satisfy the users. That in turn can create a flourishing market.
