June 30, New Chapter in High-speed wireless internet
South Korea's well known advanced internet infrastructure just got better with newly begun super speed wireless internet services, HSDPA and WiBro commercial services. There are fierce competition in the market with this 3.5G(3.5 Generation) technology since its introduction from June 30.

On May 16th, SK Telecom(SKT) began world's first ever-commercial service of HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and that was just followed by KTF on June 30.The commercial services for WiBro (Wireless Broadband Internet) also began on same day by both KT and SKT.

WiBro and HSDPA both offers super high-speed wireless internet mobility where WiBro is built around data communications and HSDPA is improvement from audio only to data communication service.

WiBro(so called mobile internet) allows wireless internet access just about anywhere(even with moving at 60Km) using various machines. In addition, it is pretty affordable for given high-speed data transfers.

Highly mobile HSDPA developed on immobile WCDMA 3G technologies theoretically known to handle 14.4Mbps data transfer rate(but only 2 to 3 Mb of data transfer rate in real tests).

Enormous growth and popularity with high tech wireless communications brought sudden explosion of competitions in HSDPA and WiBro commercial services. With signs of market saturation($300 Million in year 2004 to $600 million in 2006) in existing wire and wireless communications markets, the new high-speed internet will bring much needed new business opportunities.

Related communication experts are saying, "With the start of first ever 3.5G mobile communication services it will naturally bring consumers to make transition from existing 3G technology and related market should also compete more in high-speed wireless internet services from present mobile phone markets." In addition, for that reason each telecomm companies are restructuring their communicative infrastructures to make the transitions. However, after working out the initial tug of war, we should see better services from both sectors in the future.

Both SKT and KTF have found solid base to form nationwide networks of wireless high-speed internet services with the HSDPA in mobile communication multimedia service field.

Base on much of the effort that went into standardizing and developing to bring WiBro technology into markets, KT will use their early edge to their advantages while others wire/wireless companies are trying similar strategies. In the meantime, SKT also plans to invest in the WiBro as a secondary service backup to its main HSDPA service.

However, there are also some issues with the beginning of commercialization of WiBro and HSDPA service. First, initial small service coverage area needs to be further expanded, bring up the actual data transfer rate to its theoretical specs and developing multimedia content services that can utilize its purpose and finally coming up with the reasonable service fee that consumers can agree with.

With the new chapter of super high-speed internet service and each companies aiming to win the consumers, we will also face the variety of services and changes to our everyday life with the transition.
