ePosition Search: Diverse Location Information service, unleashing in full operation starting 2007
An advanced Location Based Service 'ePosition' which automatically searches the globally distributed POI database and different web servers to deliver multitude of location and information of any place in the world is available now.

GG21(Global Generation 21), a Korean venture company has developed the Unified Location Identification service 'ePosition' which can be used to easily identify a location. Format of the ePosition is similar to email, but '#' is used instead of '@', for example: UserID#Domain.

The unique position ID for an arbitrary location on the earth is registered through internet, the position ID (ePosition) can be used to easily display and direct the location of the registered point on the digital map through the internet. Unlike the conventional e-mail (email, picture, video file), the ePosition goes one step further to provides logistic information of mail, package and telematics with GPS Navigation.

For example, when searching for location of ZDNet Korea on the internet, typing in 'ZDNetKorea#egosio.com' to any available ePosition service search window will generate its digital map, cutting extra steps of hassle of going to other map search sites to get the information. The ePosition service utilizes uni-code encoding so it can be used not only in English but Korean, Chinese, Japanese and any most other languages worldwide.

Further, this system was developed for interoperability between different servers to easily handle different database systems and search protocols which were the big huddle to overcome for the existing Location Based Service companies and search portals alike.

Presently, this service is being linked to handle national highway and address sign system for Korean government.

In addition, it was developed to work with present ENUM system, which unifies homepage, fax, telephone, and e-mail into one single number.

By linking to ENUM search, a universal global identifier that can be used across many different devices and applications, ePosition service can provide linkage to voice, fax, mobile, email, text messaging, homepages, map search and location-based services GPS Navigation/Telematics areas using the internet or mobile services. The pilot testing service will start from January to June and actual commercial service by coming July.

Along with global trend of growth in LBS industry, the ePosition service promises to be welcome sign to portals and mobile businesses to provide them with multitudes of information contents. The location search and driving direction service will greatly benefit time management for the transporters. Especially, with registered RFID sensor as an ePosition ID can effectively better interoperability between the RFID systems.

Other applications also include e-commerce, especially in areas where cell phone has weak user interface to promote M-Commerce, Telematics/GPS sectors to provide both on site ID registration and location information service to further its competitiveness in the market.
